A new World of Warcraft guide was launched recently with the very ominous sounding title of “Cataclysm Gold Secrets”. If you saw it already, you no doubt had the same reaction I did – “how the heck could these guys have secrets for Cataclysm.” In reality, the guide is written for players who are preparing for Cataclysm and need a good stash of gold built up in the next few months.

When Cataclysm launches, the guide will likely be updated and have the perfect name for the new expansion pack. That said, what everyone really wants to know is whether the guide lives up to the name and hype and can get away with being called Cataclysm Gold Secrets.



What the Guide Contains

As far as gold guides come, Cataclysm Gold Secrets is pretty straightforward. It doesn’t attempt to do anything all that different from its competitors, though it does a much better job of describing some aspects of the gold trade that can get very confusing for newcomers.

The guide is shorter too, which is a good thing in my opinion. There is nothing in here that anyone wouldn’t want to do to make gold – no useless old world tips or “eternal farming” strategies that don’t make you any gold. It’s pretty much an auction house/add-on guide with lots of specific items and profession tips to get you through to the next level of the game. A lot of people will like that.



Does it Work?

Without spending a few weeks in front of the computer testing these strategies, I couldn’t tell you if it will help you reach the gold cap or make enough to prep for Cataclysm, but I can say that the text is well written, the details are to the point, and the strategies are no-BS. It’s the kind of guide that you expect but rarely see and it’s not bloated with unwanted bulk – another plus in my book.
